Celebrating the Graduate

Last week, our son Miles graduated from High School on his nineteenth birthday! What a week of celebrations!

We started off the week with a sports banquette. Followed by, the Baccalaureate Ceremony on Tuesday.

Then once family arrived, we spent the next day just visiting and enjoying each other’s company and some good food, of course.

The weather couldn’t have been more perfect.

Of course, our dog, Tucker, provided some good laughs. Not sure why he didn’t go around to the sides of the pergola.  Goofy dog.

We don’t always clip the outdoor curtains hanging from the pergola together now that the trees have filled out, but it does help keep them from flapping up in the wind.

On Thursday, we had to start with a birthday party and pie!  Miles does like cake, but he loves pie more.

Later, we watched a video our daughter, Emily, put together of each of Miles’ birthday wake-ups.  Since his first birthday morning, we have woke him up singing “Happy Birthday”. She did a terrific job and it was a wonderful to watch him grow and change.

Before we left for graduation, all got chance to have a photo op with the graduate.

With my grandmother here from Mississippi, we had four generations together.

We were so blessed to have so much family here to celebrate this special day with Miles.

Then we were off to watch him graduate.

We were all so proud.

The next day, we hosted an Open House in his honor.

Emily was our party planner and decorator.  I handled the food prep, but not without a lot of help from family who were able to stay a little longer.

We had one area dedicated to his birthday.  I attempted to make a blue velvet cake in honor of his college colors, but the color was really too dark and slightly scary.  The cake, however, my grandmother’s recipe, was still very delicious .  🙂

I ordered cupcakes that spelled out “Happy Graduation Miles”.  They were very tasty, but the lettering left a bit to be desired.  Lesson learned.

We created a banner with the Silhouette Cameo for the cupcake area.  I restaged this today so you could see it. 🙂

It was a great celebration, but also a bittersweet time.  For some of our guests, it was a time to say one last good-bye before we leave for Birmingham.

On that note, I’m heading out the door for what will likely be my last run on the trail.

Obviously, there won’t be a Menu Plan Monday today.  Too much crazy this week with the packers coming on Wednesday.

Happy Memorial Day to you all.  How blessed we are to have such fine men and women that serve and have served and died for our country.
