Today’s home is a real show stopper. I invite you to grab a cup of your favorite beverage and settle in. This is going to be a good ride on the home tour bus.
If you missed yesterday’s post, here’s a quick recap. I was invited to be a member of the B-Metro Blog team, showcasing neighborhoods in my community. I visited 3 of the neighborhoods featured in the annual Fall Community Showcase hosted by the Greater Birmingham Association of Home Builders.
If you are local and didn’t get a chance to explore the lovely neighborhoods in our area, the event continues this coming weekend, October 17-18, Saturday 10am-6pm and Sunday 1-6pm.
Today we are riding out to the township of Mt. Laurel. A truly town-centered walkable community that invites residents to enjoy a more relaxed pace of life.
With literally all the necessities of life at the center of the neighborhood, I was immediately taken by it’s small town charm and convenience.
What made the neighborhood most appealing beyond the gorgeous homes, which varied from smaller cottages to more grander residences, was the way the homes were built with the landscape. Mature trees surrounded every home creating a connectedness to the natural beauty of the wooded landscape and the Spoonwood Mountain Lake.
Here’s a look at the outside of the home on the tour. I’ll try and not comment on every detail, but I really loved this house, so it’s going to be hard to keep my mouth shut.
The entry was open and spacious with a herringbone inset in the hardwood floors.
Those beams. Painted to perfection, give the room such great depth and movement.
This kitchen hits every mark for a dream kitchen in my book, white cabinetry, inviting banquet and a grand center island and walk-in pantry.
Just off the banquet was a quaint and cozy screened porch. The perfect place to start the day with a cup of coffee or end a day with a glass of wine with friends.
Off of the living room was a spacious master suite.
The floor to ceiling paneled wainscotting wrapped around the focal walls in the room.
The master bathroom was a marble sanctuary. It definitely reminded me of my own design plans for our master bathroom remodel in progress.
The master included both a his and her closets. This is the hers with entry from the bedroom. The slightly smaller his closet had was entered through the bathroom.
There were two other bedrooms each with bathrooms downstairs as well.
The last bathroom downstairs, a half bath was adorned with a combination of tile, board and batton and stripes.
Upstairs, off of a generous landing, was a media/study room.
I loved the various wall treatments in this house from the wainscoting in the master, to the planked wall in the media room and the interesting painted and planked design of the boy’s room.
The boy’s bathroom was smaller, but every detail was considered. One entry door off the hall allowed the bathroom to be shared by the nearby media room and a pocket door for entry from the boy’s room. Pocket doors are such a rare and often overlooked commodity in today’s homebuilding.
The girl’s room would be a dream oasis for any teenager.
Clearly the room was built with storage and organization in mind with bookcases enveloping the bed, two closets and a dedicated study area.
Architecturally, one of the things that I found most appealing was the placement of the staircases, both going up to the bedrooms and down to the basement, were tucked just off the kitchen. It is such an efficient use of space, yet because both were a split, turning wooden staircase, they were esthetically very attractive.
This is a good place to point out the trim work that was used throughout the home. It appeared to be just two flat pieces of milled wood, one on the ceiling and one just under the upper trim. I liked the clean lines of this detail and I would venture to guess it’s much easier and less expensive to install than traditional crown molding. Either way I found it to be quite an interesting, attractive touch.
The laundry room was at the base of the stairs and near the main level garage entrance. The planking makes another appearance here surrounded by ample storage.
The basement boasted an extremely spacious finished area. Additionally, there was copious amounts of storage space in the unfinished portion or being a DIY’er at heart I saw an it as an workshop area . The walk-out basement doors led to a courtyard and focal point pergola. What a fantastic spot to gather for a dinner party or just relax under the trees!
Who wouldn’t like to call this place home? I was truly smitten with the home and the neighborhood. This home was built by Town Builders.
As a member of the B-Metro blog team, I have been compensated for this post. But all opinions and words related to the tours are my own.
Because I love to share inspirational home with my readers, most of the photos are property of Paper Daisy Design. Photos not watermarked were provided by B-Metro magazine.
