A thrifted Spring Mantle and new collections

Just like everything around our house, nothing stays the same for long, much less from year to year. This year’s spring mantle is no exception.  A few of the pieces have carried over from years past.  A few things are part of new collections acquired throughout the year.

Let’s start with what is the same.  The vase/jug piece of pottery is back as well as the larger of the bunnies. I talked about their makeover here.

The small bunnies are actually salt and pepper shakers I’ve had for many, many years. Occasionally I see them in thrift stores around town.

The other two pieces are part of my new ironstone collection. 😉  I’m picking up different pieces as I thrift shop.

This rustic cross I found at an antique mall last year, means so much to me. It reminds me of the wooden cross our Savior was nailed to for my sins.

I was surprised and super excited to find the sugar bowl that is filled with faux lavender at Goodwill recently.  My best friend gave me a the matching creamer for my birthday, which was my very first piece of ironstone. A very lucky find and I didn’t even mind the lid was missing for only $2.

The art is newly thrifted find too.  I originally purchased it for just the frame, but once I cleaned it up and hung above the mantle I thought the art worked well with the rest of the blue in the room.  It’s pretty spring like, don’t you think?

And wouldn’t you know, I recently started collecting milk glass as well.  Not to worry, I’ve been donating other random decorations from my stash to make room for these new collections.

I scored this hobnail milk glass dish at Goodwill too.  I think it was $4.

The little basket-weave milk glass dish and vase were picked up at a neighborhood garden center, that just happens to have what could be best described as a little antique shop around the register.  How convenient of them.  😉

At least the prices are right.  Both of these were $4 and $5 respectively.

I think this year’s mantle is proof that seasonal decorating doesn’t have to be expensive to be lovely and meaningful.

Leslie, I really like the simplicity of your mantle. The forsythia branches really make me look forward to spring!
