Recovery and rediscovery

So I have lots of good reasons for not being here for quite some time.  I had mentioned I’d be stepping away for a short time to be with my family for our son’s high school graduation.

I had intended to write at least one more post before signing off, but I accidentally deleted several important folders off my computer they day before I could get to that last post.

Then, I spent nearly a week with the computer being paralyzed by the recovery process.  This process was slow and painful. I used Stellar Data Recovery for Mac, which was most successful when recovering in small parcels. Now I’m wishing I used a cloud backup service like HostiServer, it would have made my recovery process so much faster, and I could have chose what files I wanted to get back (it was obviously all anyway, but it’s a handy feature)

With a crippled computer, I was also not able to finish the most important project I had committed myself to last week.

My intention, was to use the last weekend before family began arriving for graduation, to pull together the last few years of Miles’ school memories scrapbook.  And while I didn’t have time to finish because I couldn’t access or print photos,  I had rediscover my passion for scrapbooking.

If you’ve nosed around the blog here a bit, you’ve probably noticed that scrapbooking was one of the initial purposes of this blog and also the origin of the name. Beyond keeping in touch with our family back in Louisiana and elsewhere, I shared scrapbook layouts. This eventually became a vehicle by which I represented a paper company as a member of their design team.

Once I stepped down from that position, I left my scrapbook supplies idle and picked up a paint brush and started to transform our home.

It wasn’t until a week or so ago that the thrill of creating with paper and glue came back to me.  I was actually struck by how much I enjoyed pushing papers around again.   Rediscovering the hobby I had set aside brought me surprising joy.

So much so, that I vow to complete that album in my new studio once we get settled in Birmingham.  I know now that it will be not just a labor of love, but a lovely labor.  Looking forward to that day!

I’ll leave you with images of a few of those recent pages.  They certainly aren’t of the same caliber of pages I used to create, but the thrill of a finished scrapbook page was just as satisfying as it ever was.

I should tell you that once I started creating pages for classes and design teams, I stopped working in chronological order.

We have a few days before the packers show up, so I’ll be back tomorrow to share scenes from our week and hopefully that post I’d been meaning to write before the deleted files disaster. Stay tuned!

Thank you for subscribing to Paper Daisy Designs. Please continue reading on the blog. I appreciate having you as a reader.

Leslie, I really enjoyed the pictures of Miles' graduation. What a happy and exciting time it was for all of you. I wish Miles many successes and lots of happiness during his college years. JH, Baton Rouge, LA
