Client: The Country House Bathrooms

Like The Country House Kitchen, the bathroom designs needed to reflect this home’s rustic setting and exterior. But that didn’t mean they couldn’t be luxurious. The client mentioned in our vision interviews that they dreamed of a copper tub; as their designer, I set out to find the perfect tub for their primary bathroom and make the dream a reality in the most beautifully authentic way for their Southern rustic style cabin.

Behind the Design

Under the deep wrap-around porch, the exterior of this Southern home is clad in rough-cut, overlapping cedar planks. Although the home is not an authentic log cabin, a chinked wall seemed a perfect nod to the rustic design of the house. Extra material from the exterior was used to accentuate the outward-facing wall of the primary bathroom. The cedar chink provided a warm yet bright backdrop to the tones of the hammered copper tub and cedar cabinetry.

Natural slate tile floor set in a traditional Versalle pattern provides a cool-toned balance to the warmness of the rough wood and copper.

His and her vanities were topped with a softly leathered Taj Mahal quartzite slab and vintage-styled taps. Every selection, from the sconces to the mirrors, was carefully chosen for its patina and ability to evoke an ageless time.

In the guest bath, a product made from tree bark called BarkClad was repeated from the material used on the exterior gable ends and used as an accent wall. As a designer, I look for clever ways to bring a home in perfect symmetry from the exterior to the interior. This Southern-style cabin provided opportunities to literally bring that story to life.

Each of these uniquely rustic touches adds to the richness of the narrative the homeowner wanted to create and shared at our initial consultation in the early days of construction.

I was honored to bring the earliest notions of how their home could look and feel into a complete, comfortable country home centered around their family.
