Forgive me for potentially overposting the new winter look for this room. But I wanted to illustrate one of the benefits of darker slipcovers in this open concept space. Keep sliding to see it all. The darker velvet speaks perfectly to the dark upholstered chairs, which I chose because they are right next to the black island in the kitchen. It's hard to balance how much repetition is necessary for continuity at the risk of being predictable In an open concept design. ⁠(You may also notice when you swipe to the end the rug in the dining area becomes the link to the lighter slip covers.)

It has been very cold and dreary here like old man winter finally decided to rear his dark, windy head. My best friend suggested we switch the slipcovers back to the original dark grey velvet in the living room for a winter reset. ⁠

I'll share more about the other changes here on Stories over the weekend and in an upcoming blog post. I haven't had the time to write nor the internet connection necessary to actually publish a blog post. The mere fact that I can share this is proof I do indeed have internet back now but it's Friday night and I am giving myself the night off!⁠

Interestingly enough, my husband sees these covers as blue and I see them as grey. Kind of like how in the photo the left and the right look different. The color shift is directly related to the way the light hits the velvet.⁠

For today’s edition for #WayBackWednesday we are going back to 2017 and the dining room at #thetrailhousereno. This was the first room I installed panel moulding for a bit of architectural interest to an ordinary dining room. The surge in popularity of this type of moulding makes it almost trendy right now. But hopefully, with the historical ties to interior architecture of the past, we can classify it as a renaissance instead of a trend. ⠀

In this room, the panels are long without a chair rail to give the room the elusion of greater height. The panel sizes are varied, with a larger box to accommodate my treasured mirror. Do you have a favorite panel moulding style?⠀

I mentioned this weekend my best friend was visiting and we were going to switch up a few things in the living room. Without looking back, can you tell what they are? There are two fairly significant changes, at least in my mind and a couple of other very minor changes. We had a lovely weekend with our friends. Our anniversaries are just one day apart so when we lived in the same town we would often celebrate together. How fun it was to relive that tradition. ⠀

My best friend is here visiting this weekend. Over the best take-out pizza in town we came up with a fun idea for the living room. Can you guess what quick change we are going to make tomorrow? ⠀

We’ve had the best day furniture shopping for a new look in her living room. It may complicate things a little that she lives 5 hours away, but so many places ship directly to your home we are hoping this can be a fruitful trip. Bonus part of this visit, our hubbies are completely preoccupied with the NFL playoffs. ⠀

I must admit I never had any ill-conceived notions

I must admit I never had any ill-conceived notions that 2021 would be much better than 2020. However, I never would have predicted such disgrace to fall upon our nation. I don't have any answers or profound things to say, but I can tell you how I've coped through all of the turmoil of the last year. (Well, to be completely honest, this has been my tactic for years .) I don't keep the tv on all day and I rarely watch the news. I do read the news and stay informed, but watching the talking heads going on and on incessantly is just not for me and steals my joy.

If we didn't have friends coming into town this weekend, I would find a way to keep myself distracted. Probably by organizing a closet or painting furniture or some other home improvement project. Trust me, I've got a running list in my head. Maybe you do too? ⁠⠀

After I took all the Christmas down, I left everything bare for a while. I often leave a little up for a winter look, but not this year. Only a few snowy pine ones in the kitchen around a candle and that’s it. (Except for the entire Christmas tree I left in my office. Because it really does look like it belongs there and it makes me so very happy. )⠀

This little corner took my attention today. I finally purchased an ottoman a month or so ago for these chairs. I wanted something that I could tuck in front of the little table, between the chairs, when not in use. Is it the absolute best piece for that spot, maybe not, but I am happy to be able to prop my feet up and keep my eyes open for just the right thing. ⠀

To say the makeover I completed for Fall 2020 One Room Challenge has changed my quality of life is not a great exaggeration. I take @readyfreddiedoodle hiking at least a couple days a week. Crossing creeks and muddy trails are part of the terrain most days, so having a place right off the garage to wash up quickly and easily is so wonderful. He knows the drill pretty well by now and he is always ready for the special “wash up” treats!⠀

One of my favorite projects this year was adding in the finishing details of our main bathroom. It's easy to move into a new home or pull of a big renovation and still not achieve the look you had dreamed of without thoughtfully considering every decor detail. In my home and in this case, I just needed the time to pull it all together for that final look. A partnership with my favorite fabric resource @calicocorners helped too!⁠⠀

One of my goals for this year is to replace this tub. (😏Yep, I wrote that down for the world to see.) Here's why. It is way too small, even for my short self and I miss having a sprayer to wash my hair. The builder only had two options and I chose this one because the other tub had a drain in the center, middle. An absolute deal-breaker in my book. After having two amazing tubs in previous renovations I know what I like and this is not it. ⁠⠀
