While taking these photos, I noticed that the basket, usually full of toys for @readyfreddiedoodle was nearly empty. That’s because they were scattered on either side of the coffee table. I went around and picked most of them up and he was not too happy about it. We’ve learned that chewed bones are just as painful to step on as Legos. I’ve taught Freddie to talk, now the question is, do you think I could train him to pick up his toys?⠀

After wondering what it would look like for months, I finally added shades to the @troylighting sconces. I like how they lend a little more substance and balance to their placement. Deciding where to hang them in relation to the TV and fit appropriately inside the paneling was a decision I wrestled with for quite some time. Do you like the addition? ⠀

A clean kitchen is worthy of a small celebration. Don’t get me wrong, I keep a reasonably clean kitchen, but my one nemesis is the cooktop. If I’m just going to cook again, why does it have to be spotless? 😂 I am so disheartened when I ruin a perfectly polished stainless cooktop.⠀

I also finally feel like the last touches of styling after a season of Christmas decor are done. I keep it fairly simple with small groupings sprinkled around. Hope you are having a great weekend friends!⠀

We joked with friends recently about how we have ended up going through 3 refrigerators in 5 years. Each time we moved, they became part of the sale of the house. I know this average is not normal on either account, the moving or the refrigerators. However, I am very thankful for the extra refrigerator we gained when we moved to Alabama 6 years ago. I love having the extra freezer space and a place to keep cold drinks. The unexpected bonus in our downsized home, we were able to claim space in the laundry room. It’s so conveniently located off the kitchen now. At our previous homes, this extra refrigerator was down in the basement or the garage.⠀

Do you have a second refrigerator? I remember how happy I was to inherit an extra one. I’ve grown so accustomed to this luxury I’m not sure I want to live without it.⠀

Hope you had a lovely weekend my friends. Is it too early to start thinking about peony season? Maybe this will be the year I attempt to start growing peonies here. Sadly, growing up in Louisiana I had no idea peonies even existed until I was an adult. That kind of heat is not a friend to the lovely peony. I’ve been told there are varieties that can grow here in Alabama. (After the last few posts about the alternative moody slipcovers, obviously this image this image is from last spring.)

Forgive me for potentially overposting the new winter look for this room. But I wanted to illustrate one of the benefits of darker slipcovers in this open concept space. Keep sliding to see it all. The darker velvet speaks perfectly to the dark upholstered chairs, which I chose because they are right next to the black island in the kitchen. It's hard to balance how much repetition is necessary for continuity at the risk of being predictable In an open concept design. ⁠(You may also notice when you swipe to the end the rug in the dining area becomes the link to the lighter slip covers.)

It has been very cold and dreary here like old man winter finally decided to rear his dark, windy head. My best friend suggested we switch the slipcovers back to the original dark grey velvet in the living room for a winter reset. ⁠

I'll share more about the other changes here on Stories over the weekend and in an upcoming blog post. I haven't had the time to write nor the internet connection necessary to actually publish a blog post. The mere fact that I can share this is proof I do indeed have internet back now but it's Friday night and I am giving myself the night off!⁠

Interestingly enough, my husband sees these covers as blue and I see them as grey. Kind of like how in the photo the left and the right look different. The color shift is directly related to the way the light hits the velvet.⁠

For today’s edition for #WayBackWednesday we are going back to 2017 and the dining room at #thetrailhousereno. This was the first room I installed panel moulding for a bit of architectural interest to an ordinary dining room. The surge in popularity of this type of moulding makes it almost trendy right now. But hopefully, with the historical ties to interior architecture of the past, we can classify it as a renaissance instead of a trend. ⠀

In this room, the panels are long without a chair rail to give the room the elusion of greater height. The panel sizes are varied, with a larger box to accommodate my treasured mirror. Do you have a favorite panel moulding style?⠀
