The Halloween mantle that almost wasn’t

In my last post about fall and decorating, I had pretty much declared I wasn’t doing a Halloween mantle. But then I got to digging around the attic, picking out what I thought was going to be a select few decorations. Next thing I knew, my mantle had witches and cats and ghosts perched on it!

And then that crazy thing happened, that thing that got my family rolling their eyes….

I went outside and cut dead flowers! And worse yet, I put them in a decidedly tacky urn I brought home from Goodwill the day before. The urn I bought with every intention of painting and using as a mini tree stand at Christmas. Ha!

I guess you just never know what might happen when you go into the attic. Or look for something creepy outside.

And of course I say this every time I write about the mantle, those blasted two story windows are torture to photograph around. Grr.

The spooky tag banner was craft I created a few years ago. I still think it’s fun.  If you’d like a step by step process, you can go here.

And those original decorations I set out to find in the attic? Yeah, they are out too.  Along with a Halloween Chalkboard. I’ll share them with you tomorrow. Updated: You can see them here.

I guess I now have a whole month to work on those big plans I had for a fall mantle. 😉
