  1. Greetings Friend~ Love what you have done here..question – your black kitchen set. How do you like the fact it’s all black? I have ladderback chairs that I painted black with original cane seats. The table is the typical county table from the 90s? where the legs have been painted black but the top is still butcher block but not really crazy over. The kitchen cabinets are oak and hubby will not let me paint them. Walls are currently soft grey, white Subway backsplash and speckled quartz countertops and black appliances……..there is a lot of light in the kitchen……..open up to the family room. What do you think – paint the butcher block and have the set all black then? I’ve been waiting a long time to do something with this top! THANK YOU

    1. Julie,

Thanks so much! Actually, my table is not painted black on top. It is a combo stain and milk paint finish that is very dark. I then applied several coats of a matte finish polyurethane.

I think I would strip off any old finish and stain it dark. Butcher block can stain unevenly so I would be sure to use a wood conditioner too. I don’t have a tutorial for this particular table but this one below is very similar to what I did. Using the milk paint first makes the stain go on very evenly and helps get that rich finish you see on the table.

  5. Ooooh, is that copper pot you have your arrangement in vintage? I LOVE the patina it has. It really stands out in your kitchen and is so lovely. LOVE all the collected copper in the kitchen too. It all feels so warm and inviting.
