  1. I have been searching on various site and no one seems to address the issue of how the back side of the door looks if it’s a closet I understand but if it’s an opening then both sides should look good. I loved the last tutorial building for 50. What did the other side look like.

      The back side of the door is plain. I would imagine that in most cases for barn doors/sliding doors that is the case. It is mostly a matter of function. If you applied finish details to the back the door hardware would have to extend much further out and then you would have less privacy. You would also have an issue with stability.

      I think it’s a matter of compromise in this case. If you want the ease and look of a sliding barn door then you probably have to accept the backside being plain. We didn’t have an issue. It was high end, cabinet grade plywood and you could see a nice woodgrain.
