Atypical Southern Fall Front Porch

When planning my fall decorations for the front porch, I decided to use our own yard as inspiration.  We have three beautiful magnolia trees that are essential for any southern yard. While the dark green leaves are a welcome constant in the winter, a lovely oversized Japanese maple tree stands just off to the side.  As the fall progresses, the leaves will turn a stunning crimson color. Those trees were all the inspiration I needed to create a fall front porch with an atypical color scheme but with decidedly southern sensibilites.

I really wanted to use some unexpected colors this season.  The addition of the crepe myrtle trees to the large black planters echo the purple hues of the maple tree. Once it is time to decorate for Christmas, these trees will be planted In the back yard, extending their use and beauty long past the fall!

I used ivory pumpkins to break up the red brick of the steps and was very happy to find the perfect wreaths too! You can see magnolia leaves in the wreaths, once again tying in our existing foliage.  Those whites, purples, and greens all have such a fresh, lively feeling!

When we zoom out, you can see that gorgeous maple just turning red at the tips.

The lanterns amidst the pumpkins not only bring balance to the stairs  up by the door, the candle inside also brings in another pop of ivory.
