The smallest sneak peek of a a kitchen from whole house project very literally years in the making.

These homeowners have had the worst luck possible with just about every subcontractor they hired. (Bless their hearts. They had their own subcontractors hired before they brought me on board.)

Today, I was finally able to go and style a small part of the kitchen I designed for them. It was so nice to see them happy and getting settled in their house in the country. Hopefully, this is just the beginning of making it a warm and welcoming home.

The following photos are the markers I use to remind myself where to turn because the house isn’t on any kind of map. “The turn is right after the deer mailbox and then take right side of the fork in the road.”

The design agenda for this client's powder bath remodel was rooted in the cottage aesthetic, but make it bold. I love when a client wants to make statement in a powder room, to welcome guests into a little jewel box.⁠

Waiting on spring. Resisting the urge to rush to spring inside when the air is still cold and the light is brighter without the cover of the trees. While the landscape seems monochromatic this season embracing contrast feels nice. Soft branches, that don’t feel too spring-like and soft textiles make it feel cozy.

What are your favorite ways to overcome the blah’s of winter? Or do you just throw yourself directly into spring in your home?

Plants are part of the finishing touch in any room I style. It took me a while to find the right specimen for our glamorous bathroom update, but this ficus tree (Ficus Nitida) was worth the wait.

In here, I love how it softens the expanse of glass which felt cold and empty before.

The window to this room faces south to south east and is filled with bright light all day. I water it once a week most of the time, but the proper care is probably every 5 days especially in the warmer months. (This takes some effort on my part because I either buy or train my plants to except watering every Friday or Saturday.) The ficus does occasionally drop leaves and it makes me sad and worried, but soon new sprouts emerge and I know all is well.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not opposed to a faux tree when conditions aren’t right, but in this bathroom a living thing is infinitely better.

Happy New Year! The tradition at our house is to take down Christmas during the day. For dinner, we always have my grandmother’s cabbage casserole and black eyed peas. Southern lore says black eyed peas will bring you luck and cabbage will bring wealth. Who am I to tempt fate? It’s just what we do.

Back in 2015, when the blog was just for family and friends, I added my version of my grandma’s recipe to the blog. I’ll add the link in the bio if you are interested. (Don’t expect much of the photography.) Even my cabbage averse family will eat this. Every year, I eat all the leftovers for lunch over the next few days and then get on the path to healthy eating.

What are your traditions for New Year’s Day? I’d love to hear. I always find family traditions fascinating.

Oh, and about this image. I loved seeing this little tree on the table I picked up from Roundtop Texas this year. I will miss this view.

One more remodel on the blog before the year is up! A traditionally inspired cottage style bathroom was completely remodeled with elevated, luxurious finishes. The uninviting, chopped up floor plan needed to be reimagined in the existing footprint. The solutions and the full reveal are worth seeing, but the story behind the scenes takes this client’s bathroom from a successful project to a personal full circle.

It is about now that people start taking down thei

It is about now that people start taking down their Christmas decor or start talking about doing it. I prefer to keep it all up until January 1 for several reasons.
1. I am generally not ready to see it go.
2. I love keeping the house feeling festive for New Year’s Eve.
3. When our children were little, the week between Christmas and New Year always felt slower paced and I truly got to enjoy the season. So now it’s a tradition.
4. All of the above are good reasons to procrastinate. 😂

Whatever you choose, to do is right for you and your family. I understand that some people are ready for a clean slate and others keep their Christmas up to follow a religious calendar.

Who’s kitchen is ready for some holiday baking. I’m going to start tonight or tomorrow. I usually try to wait until closer to the big day. I like my treats to be fresh and if I make them too far in advance my people eat them before the holiday has come.

Look! There’s a fire in my non-functioning fireplace! 😂 The day I photographed our home for the Seasonal Simplicity Christmas Home tour was so gloomy I decided to take many of the photos with candles lit. Funny how I didn’t even notice the angle created such a fire until I pulled the photo here to share!

Little by little our home is being filled with the

Little by little our home is being filled with the Christmas cheer. I'll be sharing a full home tour on the blog next Wednesday, but for now here's a little sneak peek. I arranged the white mums leftover from our Thanksgiving table arrangements with some red roses and fresh greens from a tree in the front yard. I don't think this arrangement will last until the photo shoot so I thought I'd preserve it now.

Functional decor side note. The wooden box is tucked behind the lamp on this table to hold @readyfreddiedoodle’s “come inside” treats. Stubborn little thing will often stand at the door and stare at you until you offer him a treat.

Thanksgiving tree. I am usually not one to rush into my Christmas decor. I really wanted to try this beautiful brown ribbon on my new @kingofchristmas 9ft Queen flocked tree. I thought why not create a simple Thanksgiving tree to test the look out and still celebrate the holiday.
